Veteran life insurance

Life insurance for U.S. Navy service members & veterans.

Navy applicants face unique underwriting questions around sea duty, sub duty, and aviation/SOF specialties. We route to carriers that handle these scenarios cleanly and have placed coverage for sailors at every major Navy installation in the country.

Branch-specific underwriting

What carriers actually look at for Navy applicants.

Sub duty and aviation specialties (NFOs, naval aviators) sometimes draw extra carrier scrutiny. SWCC and NSW Operators face the SOF underwriting screen, similar to other branches. Surface fleet sailors typically underwrite cleanly. We screen up front to avoid surprise table-rates.

Sea duty and deployments

Long deployments (6+ months) sometimes complicate the application timing — paramedical exam scheduling, signature collection, and policy delivery all require shore time. We complete most active-duty applications in the 30-60 days before a deployment or during shore rotations.

Naval aviation

Pilots, NFOs, and aircrew are in the aviation underwriting bucket. Many major carriers underwrite at Standard or Standard Plus rates without exclusions, but specifics depend on aircraft type, mission profile, and flight hours. We've placed coverage for F/A-18 pilots, helicopter aviators, and P-8 crews.

Submarine duty

Sub duty is generally underwritten cleanly — no specific exclusions at major carriers. Confined-space operations and isolation aren't life insurance flags.

SWCC and Naval Special Warfare

NSW Operators (SEALs, SWCC) face SOF underwriting questions similar to other branches. Several carriers underwrite at Standard rates with disclosure; others exclude. We narrow down to the right carrier early.

Navy questions

Navy life insurance FAQ

I'm a naval aviator — will my flight status affect my premium?

Not significantly with the right carrier. Major carriers underwrite Navy aviators at Standard rates with minimal questions. The exception: certain mission profiles and aircraft types (test pilots, certain experimental aircraft) draw extra scrutiny.

How does sea duty affect application timing?

We typically time applications to your shore rotations. The paramedical exam, signature collection, and policy delivery all require shore time. Most active-duty applications close in 30-60 days during shore periods.

Can I apply while deployed?

Sometimes — depends on the carrier and your access to a paramedical exam at the deployed location. AU (no-exam) carriers are sometimes the better path during deployment.
